17th Annual Lowell Folk Festival - 2003

Lowell, MA was a textile mill town. Many immigrants came to Lowell to work in the mills, so there is an incredibly diverse population heritage there. One of the old mill complexes has been turned into a museum, and you can see/hear the looms that the "mill girls" used to work with.

Each year, Lowell hosts the "largest free folk festival in the U.S." (Details can be found at http://www.lowellfolkfestival.org)

The festival featurs singers and dancers from around the world. If ever you have a chance to attend, you should. It's a feast for the eyes and the ears (and the tummy, with all the ethnic food tents).

This gallery combines photos from the museum with photos from the festival.
