This superb mansion survived the Civil War, only to fall prey to fire in 1890. The columns are all that remain, tucked in a woodland somewhere off the beaten path between Natchez and Vicksburg.
The house has been recreated, somewhere outside Dallas, TX, and was for sale in April of 2002. The San Antonio newspaper had a photo of it, and an article about it, in the business section. The new house was beautiful, but the skeleton of the original mansion has a beauty that cannot be denied, as well.
