To Bruddah Phil and the Prais 'Ohana.......
Its been a little over a year now....since we lost a treasure that was "Our Preacher Man".....he is to me, along with Frances and all followers of his Banyan Tree Ohana.....one of the most gratifying reasons I visited Lahaina Town whenever I was on Maui.....I enjoyed coming in to sit, break bread, enjoy natures offerings and listen to the word and message under the Banyan Tree........the spiritual ease which I felt sittin along side him was something I craved then.....something I miss now.....I have been told that faith is the belief in all that is unseen......and for someone like myself......not being able to see him....and receive his words, and feel his faith.....physically under the Banyan Tree weighs heavily on me...... I was a man of little faith.......and he is one person, that in my life and journeys has reached inside my being like no other.....and drawn out faith in the word, and in fellow man....and for that......he is a treasure......and will always be.....Bruddah Phil is not gone.....Bruddah Phil will not be forgotten.....Lahaina Town (without its politics) will forever have a special place in my heart........but Bruddah Phil will always have a place in my heart and remain in my thoughts......Lahaina town will never be the same to me..... it will always be beautiful.......just not the same without him there. Mahalo Bruddah Phil!

My thoughts for Phillippo on this Memorial Day...

Revelation 14:12,13 "Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them."

Ecclesiastes 3:21, 4:2 "Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive."

Aloha Ke Akua for the braddah.

This is in response to the article in the June 12 Maui News titled “Sidewalk preacher found dead”. It is with great sorrow and disappointment that this letter is written. The newspaper’s portrayal of Philip Prais was insensitive and inaccurate. He was much more than a man with “white beard and long hair” who “called out to passers-by at Banyan Tree Park”. He was a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, nephew, companion, and friend. He was a Native Son, being born and raised on Maui and having half Hawaiian blood that can be traced back to royalty. He was not homeless. He had a home in Hana, but he chose to live a simple life dedicating his time to spreading the Gospel in the travelers’ hub of Lahaina. He was much more than a “sidewalk preacher”. His ministry, however unconventional, spanned over 35 years. He forsook the creature comforts that most of us take for granted in order to devote himself to the Word of God; he gave freely, expecting no compensation. He conferred with rich and poor, great and small alike, and the seeds he sowed literally reach across the globe.
His dedication to his mission cost him dearly, but he didn’t compromise his beliefs or his principles, no matter what he came up against or lost personally. If you took the time to talk with him, you would find that he knew the Bible like the back of his hand, and he could find you a scripture to address any matter. He could have chosen to conform to this world. His earthly life certainly would have been much easier. But he stood by his convictions to the end, and those who love him find solace in the fact that he is now in a better place, at peace and at rest. His legacy will live on through those whose lives he has impacted. Criminal trespass? Harrassment? Disorderly conduct? It is ironic that he was found by a church called “Holy Innocents”. While man brought judgement and criminal charges against Mr. Prais, we believe that God’s final judgement can be found in Matthew 24:21: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” We know that Brother Philip is watching us from heaven, having finished his work on this earth, and has entered into his rest with the Lord. Although we take comfort in this, we will miss him and, whether or not people realize it, his passing is a loss for our community.

i am sorry i know perhaps this article on todays paper page a 5 may
not pertain to you, but pehaps u may b able to fwd: to the correct
party.
my name is david ka'eo kaimanaokealoha prais, son of lawrence kalani
prais, brother to philllip prais," side walk preacher. Very hurt, and
distraught in morning are we the ohana of uncle phillip prais during
these times.
very close am i to uncle phillip as are many others throughout the
hawaiian isles, as well the mainlands of all other nations. But, of
course with all that love comes hate, very sad and to say it was
plentyful as well.
id like to clarify Phillip Prais was a very very kind and loving man
towards all. He was not a homeless man, for he had a home @ hamoa
maui. As well as seven other siblings and then keiki of them which all
have houses, ohana, is always e komo mai. Never in his life has he
ever been homeless.
as well moving on to the tresspassing charge and that buissness. As we
all know he was very akamai with the holy bible.
He will missed and in our hearts always.
Mahalo for all of your good thoughts.
