Has anyone ever noticed the fasces (a symbol of power used by the Romans which consists of a bundle of rods tied together, usually with the blade of an axe sticking out of one side which is where we get the word fascist.) on the front of the chair in which Lincoln sits?
The words combined with the selection of Lincoln's piercing eyes and strong hand makes for a profound image. Excellent choice of b&w for this powerful photo.
