Adding texture on a new layer give unlimited variations of effect
Layer mode of Overlay or Soft Light filled with 50% gray
usually give me a good starting point.
Anything can be used for texture. In this case, a picture of clouds was used.
Editing is easy with Layer Opacity and use of layer mask.
