I made this quilt from just three different fabric prints. I really like the gradient colors of the red and black fabrics. I cut the blocks so that they would fade from dark to light across the checkerboard. I alternated the gradient directions and also arranged the red gradient rows to be at right angles to the blacks. This concentrated the medium-brights toward the center of the quilt and darks toward the edges and corners. The binding is made from the red gradient fabric. I finished it off with a "hot rod flames" quilting pattern using variegated red-black thread called "Hot Coals".
