Cleaning up vignettes in scanned 35mm slides:
I used the Lens correction filter in PSCS3 on a smart object layer. In the sample image, the vignette was dense enough to cause a color shift when removed. I overcame this by using the filter on a duplicate smart object layer and changing the layer blending mode to Luminosity.
This procedure can be recorded in an action to run on a batch of images. Then when performing other scan clean up procedures (dust removal) on each image, the vignette correction can be edited if necessary for individual slide variations.
