Experimenting with the texture painting technique posted by Dave Jaseck

I started by duplicating the dog image and adding some rough smudging, leaving a few details like eyes and nose.

Then I added a new texture layer, courtesy of Mike Warren. I duplcated this layer 3 times and rotated each layer 90 degrees so that the exact texture wouldn't carry through all 4 layers.

I changed these layers to Soft light blending mode and tried a different adjustment layer clipped to each texture layer.

Going back and adjusting the layer styles, layer opacity, plus the adjustments gives endless possibilities.
