These chullpa's (burial towers) were built by the Colla peoples, who were conquered by the Inca in the late 1400's. This tower is approximately 40' feet high with a small hole, just large enough for a person to crawl through, facing the east which is the direction the sun is born every day. The burial chanber is uterus shaped and the body is mummified in the fetal position so they left life just as they entered. The blocks were cut with stone chipping tools and fit precisely with no mortar.
