The images contained in this gallery are from a 5-day road trip my wife, Kathy, and I took to southeastern Utah. The places where we spent the majority of our time were: Moab, Utah, the gateway to some of the most spectacular scenery and geological wonders of any lace in the Unites States; The Arches National Park, a place of wondrous examples of time, wind and water acting on stone; Canyonlands National Park; Natural Bridges National Monument and Monument Valley. Monument Valley is not a national park, but an area of southern Utah beset with those butte-like red stone formations called mittens. The valley is located along Utah State Route 163 and is centered on the quaint town of Mexican Hat. Over the years from 1936 onward 44 feature films were made in this area. It was director John Ford’s favorite filming location and may of his epic westerns staring the John Wayne were filmed her and around Moab. As many of the older films such as Stagecoach and Fort Apache were shot in black and white utilizing those marvelous polarized skies I have included some black and white images to illustrate what Director John Ford so loved. I have tried to caption each photo with it’s exact location or description. Please excuse any duplicates. I just couldn’t choose one shot over another.
Nathan,
These are collectively the best photos I have ever seen of this magnificentlocation.
Each one kept getting better and better. The black and whites are right out of "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon."
