Male Allen's in Tallahassee

The fourth Allen's hummingbird seen in Tallahassee, and the first male, was banded by Fred Bassett on February 22, 2006.
The Allen's is nearly identical to the more common Rufous, but it has a green back. This bird has completed his molt and is in full breeding plumage.

Below is a link to a map showing where Allen's are normall found and gives an indication of why this is such a special bird

Allen's Map

He is likely on his way back to the west coast but just couldn't resist staying a while in this wonderful yard.

Note: The bird was last seen Friday, February 24th, after spending a week here.
It spent all day Thursday feeding every 10 minutes so it must have been stocking up its fat
reserves for the long trip west - Good Luck and come back next winter.
