This little chick is part of a wind chime
that I brought back from Venezuela in 1992.
I was there working as an IT consultant -
what an experience!! The string used on the
wind chime is getting fragile and has broken
in a few spots and so this little chick has
been sitting on my countertop, waiting to
be reunited with the rest of the flock. :)
And in fact, February 3 is the day in 1992 that
a coup d'etat began in Caracas. We awoke the
next morning to the news on CNN; hadn't heard anything
during the night. The hotel where we were staying
provided a ring-side seat to fighting that lasted
all day. Mortar rounds (I'm serious!) rocked the hotel
and bullets (from snipers on top of nearby buildings)
actually came through the windows and into the wall
just down the hall from my room. I had forgotten that
this was the anniversary and so the fact that I picked
up this chick for my photo today, well, it's a little weird.
