Great group of pictures, Greg. I am sure glad I am not a gopher or anything like that. What a way to end up. I recently shot a heron catching a tadpole (huge one) and it did the same, dipping it in water several times before swallowing.

Incredible series of photos Greg! It's amazing you managed to capture a photo of the gopher before the heron grabbed it. And you followed up with some fantastic shots of the process of "cooking" dinner and eating it. Amazing! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Greg,

Great captures! I was lucky enough to catch a Great Blue Heron doing the same thing last spring in Berkley (http://www.pbase.com/rbfresno/hunting_heron ). I've got a bunch of Black-crowed night herons living close by, but there's a big fence around them so it's hard to get close (http://www.pbase.com/rbfresno/nightherons ). Where were these taken?
