Most of the photos were taken at long range in very poor light conditions. A canon 100-400 IS lens was used the majority of the time.

Dear Fred,

Your photos are gorgeous, both the Costa Rican birds and your S. African shots.
Did you use digiscoping for the birds or a normal long lens on your camera? The guide we used in CR is writing a field guide to birds of CR and his friend who is doing the plates may be interested is seeing some of your photos for plumage variations, etc. Would you mind if I send him your photos.
