Firefall @ Yosemite

The Firefall refers to the ephemeral Horsetail Fall that glows for a very short period of time during the sunset hours for two weeks in the middle of February when there is enough sunlight to illuminate the east facing cliff of El Capitan.

After hearing so much of this phenomenon, we decided to see it with our own eyes. We had decent rain early in the season. By the time we booked our lodging, most lodging options were full. With the remaining week for this special event, a winter storm was forecasted. We ended up having to cut our trip short, thus only had one evening to see this. Several hundred of other visitors shared this special moment with us at the viewing spot where everyone had to travel on foot, walking between 1.5 - 4 miles each way from their parking lots.

We spent the second day checking out a few favorite spots before leaving the park, slightly ahead of the storm path.
