The ticket price to the East Street and the featured spots is CNY100 (US$13 at the time of visit), which is pretty steep for ordinary Chinese. Most tourists come with a tour company that offers long distance transportation plus entrance fee at a discount rate. Each group comes with a tourguide with a loud speaker in hand. The noises from the loud speakers clash between groups. The constant crowds flood each small section making it impossible for solo travelers to linger any longer. Using a hole-punching system on the ticket, most of the spots can be visited only once. It is a way to control the flow of visitors so they can be in and out in a matter of minutes. The operation style is very much like that of a fast food Chinese restaurant.
