Shackleton Hike

Retrace in the footsteps of Sir Earnest Shackleton. A century ago, in order to rescue more than 20 expedition members who were trapped more than 700 nautical miles away, Shackleton went through all kinds of hardships and arrived at south Georgia Island. They arrived on the wrong side of the islands, and had to climb mountains for 36 hours in late autumn, and walked nearly 20 miles before arriving at the inhabited whaling station. His experience has been written up in many books. I recommend you to read Endurance. His experience is also a must-read for training today's management. We only hiked the last six kilometers they did. It was a day of cool temperatures, light rain and strong winds, sometimes reaching 45 mph. Some slopes were steep, we trekked in the snow, but had to slide down the snowy mountain. We disembarked from Furtuna Bay and hiked to Stromness Bay where our cruise ship picked us up. There were many fur seals that could bite people on the two shores. We had to move in groups. If bitten, the nearest medical facility was a two-day sea trip with good weather.
