Cusco was the heart of the Inca Empire which stretched from the current Ecuador and Colombia to southern Chile. It was an ancient capital city and a holy city for millions of Quechuas. The town is centered at the town square, with neighborhoods radiate outward to all directions, and all walkable.
There are many, almost too many churches for the size of the center of the city, all build on top of the Incan temples after the Conquistadors swept through the area. they dominate the skyline of this beautiful city.
This was our launching pad to the Inca Trail hike and the Sacred Valley, where we were acclimated for the high altitude. We also visited the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun, as well as the Inca Museum. The food we had here was amazing!
