Elephant Seals

Elephant seals are the giants in seals. They like to sleep and gather together, especially in cold and snowy weather. They pile up onto one another generating steam with their breath. They make noises all the time, belching or farting. The size of an elephant seal can be identified from the sound. They open their mouths as if to ask "who's the dentist?" They like to fight among themselves. These photos were taken on the island of South Georgia, mostly 7-8 years old. Their nose begins to form the shape of an elephant nose.
