DADA @ The Knitting Factory, 10/26/2006

Wow. What an incredible show. It's not often I get to photograph one of my all time favorite bands, and at such a small venue at that. Dada has been dishing out their own unique brand of rock/blues since their first album "Puzzle" was released in 1992. While they never reached the commercial success that they definitely deserve, they've built up quite the cult fan-base, and continue to write and perform great music year after year. Michael Gurley is a master of creating catchy blues riffs that get drilled into your brain for weeks on end. His voice, along with bass player Joie Calio, are a perfect compliment to each other. It's impossible not to want to sing along the the harmonies in each chorus of every song. Rounding off the power trio is Phil Leavitt on drums, another great vocal contributor to the band. The set was a great mix of old and new songs (some at this point still unreleased), with the 1994 album "American Highway Flower" probably being the most represented. Everyone in the crowd was treated to an amazing night. If you're not yet a fan of this band, do yourself a favor and check out a few of their tunes. A sample of songs can be found on their Myspace page at myspace.com/dadatheband. You won't be disappointed. Below are some of the highlights from the night.
