Howling at the Emptiness of God

When I was born
I slipped from my mother’s dark womb
into the jaws of a dark wolf,
and as the wolf chewed
I hungered for God
and asked Him if he hungered for me.

The wolf howled long at the silence of God
until only the moon was real.
