After a bit of analysis and help from experts I feel safe in saying this is a second-cycle Herring Gull and not a California Gull. In flight, the rump should be almost clean white for a second cycle California Gull at this time of year. Galen Pittman and Mick McHugh found this bird on 1/23/13 at noon.
