Evening Light

St. Charles Parish, Louisiana

This is the golf course behind my house in the evening light. All of the trees look like they had a little taken off the top. There are also trees down on some of the neighbors' houses. Jefferson Parish allowed residents to return for the last 3 days to collect essentials and view the extent of damage to their homes. There are still many homes in Jefferson Parish that have water in them. My husband's company is located in Jefferson, so he spent the last 3 days loading trucks to move the company to Lake Charles. They were very lucky and had very little damage. His boss' house is still underwater. The company has rented out some former military housing in Lake Charles to house many of the company employees, most who lived in St. Bernard. We still have not heard from some friends, but are praying for the best. He will be working from home for now, but may need to move to Lake Charles as well.

Internet has been restored here and I report back to school on Monday. We still don't have a start date for the kids, but it will probably be the week following. We are in the process of collecting information from the displaced families who will be enrolling students.

How unfortunate that this beautiful light is marred by the destruction.
Glad to hear some things are returning, slowly.

Looks like a lot of cleaning up to do here.

This is just so scary, and it's not even the worst that's happened down there. I'm so glad that your lives are getting back to near-normal.

you have an immense amount of work ahead of you . . .not JUSt you, but ALL YA'ALL . . . I was in Costco today and they are taking doantions (at least here locally) for the Red Cross for Katrina's damaged areas. The hope is that we (as a nation) will rally the way we all did for 9/11. The devastation is similar, I think. I gave $$$ since I could be anonymous and still get the tax deduction =)

I'm so glad that all is (mostly) well with you and your family... the damage can be repaired. I pray for your friends and that normality will soon be restored. Good to see you posting again.
