I am in South Carolina for the day - well it was supposed to be a day, due to mechanical problems, I spending another night :) This is a very interesting place called Healing Springs. According to a historical marker at the location - Artesian wells supplied legendary mineral waters to pilgrims seeking help for all kinds of ailments. Historical records and legend date the springs back to 1770 when Indians considered the waters sacred and bathed in them for healing when sick or hurt. During the American Revolution, four mortally wounded British soldiers were left here with two able bodied men to care for them until they died and were buried. Six months later, all six returned to their garrison in Charleston, further perpetuating the springs' legend for healing. When I visited here in August they were experiencing a drought and the water was running very slowly from the spigots
Today they seem to be running faster. As I was leaving two families pulled up to fill their plastic jugs. It seems that instead of buying the bottled water like I do, they just come and fill up their jugs once a week. The water in the creek is fed by the artesian well and is very clear.
