We joined geologist Doris Sloan and Icelandic tour guide Elisabet Brand for our first visit to Iceland in August 2015. The tour was organized for the Oakland Museum of California's Natural Sciences Guild. We were rewarded by a grand dose of volcanos, glaciers, and the rift zone between the North American plate and the Eurasian plate. Scenic consequences of these forces are waterfalls, basalt columns, outwash plains, fjords, and a permanent understanding that our planet is always in flux.
