2500 women and girls sign up for the Valley Spokesmen Cycle Touring Club's annual Cinderella Classic metric century bicycle ride, held this year on April 10th. The line for registration starts in the pre-dawn chill; the doors open at 7AM. Many riders are decorated for the occasion - feathers and tulle, tiaras, teddy bears, and sparkling slippers on their helmets, butterfly wings, fluttery skirts over their cycling shorts, glittery jackets. We are all ages, all sizes and shapes, fast and slow, and it's fun. It started out windy, but the wind wasn't so strong later. There were clouds and sun and a few little sprinkles of rain - but no downpours. Green hills, blooming yellow mustard, vineyards, suburbs, industrial parks. At the end, the prize: a Cinderella patch and hot soup.
