Scratchbuilt HO scale plastic and brass model of a Southern Pacific wood flanger by Clyde King. Most of what you see was made from Evergreen styrene and brass parts made by hand. Trucks are from Tahoe Model Works, have not yet been modified to remove the springs. SP's wood flangers like this one dated from the 1930s, some of which survived into the early 1980s without rebuilding. Other SP wood flangers were significantly rebuilt by the railroad's shops in the 1970s with steel sides... Clyde modeled a pair of SP steel flangers which can be viewed here

This wood flanger will eventually be painted to match a photograph of SPMW 318 depicted on page 92 of Jim Kinkaid's book "Southern Pacific Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, Volume 3".
