Stockton, CA July '96

I've taken photos of railroad activity on numerous visits to the Stockton (CA) area for quite a few years, dating back to 1979. Alas, the tower pictured in several of these images is gone. The paint schemes found on several of the diesel locomotives are also getting somewhat dated and harder to find now. A few of the images depict trains operating over the former Western Pacific railroad, which crossed the ATSF here. That WP line was torn up and removed several years ago. The three railroads crossing one another at Stockton Tower (as the location was known) are all part of larger systems now. In 1995, the Santa Fe became part of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Western Pacific disappeard into UP in late 1982. The Southern Pacific became part of Union Pacific as of September 11, 1996. This series of photos were all taken in July 1996.
