Darren is currently scratchbuilding 25 HO scale Burlington Northern shorty steel coil cars. Primarily constructed from Evergreen Scale Models styrene, they're based on drawings and measurements his dad, Clyde King, a noted and profound modeler of his own (who's own models appear elsewhere in this gallery), took of a prototype car. Darren had Microscale custom print decals for the cars, all of which will be painted BN green and lettered for Burlington Northern. The 1:1 scale prototype cars were built by National Steel Car. Unfortunately, attempts to secure plans direct from the direct builder went nowhere. Thankfully a car was located on a siding from which measurements could be taken.

Once completed, Darren's twenty five BN steel coil cars will definitely make an impressive train!
