We had attempted to complete the circumnavigation of the archipelago in the night, but could find no passage through the ice. So, today was all about backtracking through the ice. Fortunately, we were all awake for this trip and the weather was good, so everyone spent most of the day watching us break through the ice. As the ice broke up in front of us, the Kittiwakes would swoop, dive, and fight for any opportunities for small fish they spotted in the cracks that were forming.
