The last flying DC-2 in the world painted in the colours of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines PH-AJU "Uiver". The latter won the 1934 London-Melbourne air race but crashed in the Syrian desert only 3 months after that.
This particular aircraft was built for the US Navy and served from 1935-1944. After WW2 it had several owner before Colgate W. Darden bought it in 1968. He owned and flew the plane until 1999 when National Aviation Theme Park Aviodrome bought it. Although the historical registration marks PH-AJU are prominently visible, the aircraft is still registered in the FAA register: NC39165. The DC-2 is flown and maintained by volunteers.
