Otter in January

Southern Vancouver Island

An image from the past that got missed in the shuffle.

Otters have been around for at least 5 million years based on early fossil remains. They are found in very diverse locations. They live both on land and in the water and are often mistaken for beavers, Otters are small animals that average about four feet in length and can weight up to 30 pounds. They consume up to 20% of their body weight daily and nursing female consumes even more than that. Approximates 5 hours of an otter's day is spent searching for food. ~ otter-world.com
