The Big Sneak

Southern Vancouver Island

BEST VIEWED AT ORIGINAL SIZE

It is a dangerous undertaking, moving the family to a new home, and sometimes stealth is a key factor in the success of the venture.

We caught sight of this mallard hen sneaking along the side of the road at the end of the local golf course. She was doing her best to melt into the ground as she lead her flock of 9 alongside the quarter mile of golf course fencing. We weren't able to stick around long enough to know if their trek was successful, but we didn't see any eagles, hawks or dangerous looking varmints along their path. The destination pond isn't accessible to the public, so we can't check on the family, however it seemed like the hen knew what she was doing and their chances of making the journey unscathed looked good.

Super Great catch....I have yet to see any little ones here...most of the gosslings are fully feathered already. V
