Bonding

Southern Vancouver Island

Canada Geese facts: After hatching, new-born goslings emerge wet and weighing approximately 3 to 4 ounces. They are capable of seeing, eating and walking around (Precocial). Mother hovers over the goslings, which are light yellow in color with greenish-grey heads, until they are dry. This is the most important period in their lives, when bonding takes place. Unlike most birds, goslings don’t recognize their own kind. If mother isn’t there for them to see, they will bond to whomever will take care of them. ~ All About Birds
