California Quail Chick

Southern Vancouver Island

Mamma brought her chicks out and there were eight in all. Herding cats may be difficult, but it doesn't hold a candle to eight quail chicks who have just discovered the miracle of flight! Mama was a busy bird. We were amazed that chicks this small could fly at all, but these babies could make it from the ground into the trees with no problem! California Quail facts: California Quail chicks are precocial, which means relatively mature and mobile from the moment of hatching, so can leave the nest with their parents. ~ whatbird.com
