Storm Damage

Ladysmith, BC

Hurricane force winds and torrential rains have pounded Vancouver Island during the last two days. Power outages and downed trees occurred across the island, ferry crossings were cancelled, boats broke loose from their moorings and piers and marinas were damaged by the powerful wind. In Mill Bay on the south-eastern tip of the island the local pier was demolished and boats were strewn along the rocky shore. Above is an image of the Ladysmith Maritime Society's Visitor Centre, torn from its mooring during the storm it finally came to rest on the beach near the Ladysmith Government Dock. The pleasure boat was either attached to the building or became entangled during the high winds.

Below (shot by Racine)is a shot of me trying to keep the camera dry during the photographing of the damages.
