Cute....but not recommended!

Esquimalt Lagoon, Vancouver Island, BC

‘Stay calm’ was all I could think of when I saw this young boy bend over and pet one of the Mute Swans at the Esquimalt Lagoon….fortunately the mother, the boy and both the swans all stayed calm. I was too far away to be of help, so I quickly grabbed the camera to take this shot and started to breathe normally again when the boy moved away unharmed. While these birds are residents in the lagoon they are not tame and unfortunately visitors are often unaware of the potential dangers….today they were lucky.

I think animals know when someone is not going to hurt them. I can tell the one in back is watching intently. Excellent capture. Glad he didn't get hurt.

I have been chased before. What a racket they make.

That's a lovely charming photo. It's one of the myths in the UK that swans can break your arm with their wings. But I bet they could give a nasty peck anyway.
It was probably lucky that there were no cygnettes around.

Swanns are not often friends with humans even if they are a so dear and tender little boy like this one !
Fantastic image, Racine !
