Shock was the best was to describe how I felt when I spotted this Short-eared Owl! I’d about given up on seeing an owl this winter and when this one appeared all I could think was, “don’t screw up this shot, it may be a long time before you see another one of these!” Fortunately the owl was obliging and seemed as interested in me as I was in it, so he looked, I snapped, and all was good. The Short-eared Owl is found on every continent except Australia and Antarctica. It breeds in the cooler temperate zones, and though it’s nomadic, it is present in many localities year round especially where winters are mild. ~ wildbirds.com
