The most prolific duck on Vancouver Island is the Mallard. We often pass up opportunities to photograph them because 'they're always there' or 'they're nothing special', yet they are one of the most colourful and the friendliest duck around. Watch them for awhile and you begin to have renewed appreciation for their beauty. This drake was particularly appealing as he floated in the shadows along the edge of the marsh. Mallard facts: A group of mallards in flight is called a "sord".
