Ghost Sign Advertising

Sprague, Washington

The fading, peeling advertising signs on brick walls, which can still be found across the country, are
sometimes called “ghost signs". The products they advertised are usually long gone from any stores
shelves. The signs can appear suddenly after a rain has darkened the bricks or sometimes they can be
found after a fire or storm exposes a wall that was hidden behind another building. They appear as
memories from our past that are fading into time.
