A Chance Encounter

Fishing Bridge Area, Yellowstone National Park

We spotted this female coyote and one of her pups by chance and then they disappeared into the bush and we thought we had missed the opportunity for a shot. Not to be deterred, we sighted them through the timber and moved on to where we thought they might come out of the bush. Sure enough, they both appeared as if on cue, the pup a bit deeper in the shadows and the female interested, but not too concerned about our presence. Coyote facts: The coyote has 5 digits on the forefeet, including the dewclaw (remnants of a 5th digit) and 4 digits on the hindfeet. The coyote is digitigrade meaning it walks with only its toes touching the ground.
