Day 41

Madison River, Yellowstone National Park

Sept 16, Wed - day 41
West Yellowstone, Montana
Weather - low 35 (2C) to mid 80s (30C) mostly sunny

We planned an early predawn start today so we’d be early enough to catch the elk herds and morning light. Success….we got more than we’d hoped for. We watched several elk calves playing in the field and took many (lots and lots) of shots of their games. That made for some fun shooting and unique photos.

We just couldn’t seem to make it out of the Firehole area today. In the Firehole Canyon we maneuvered up and down the river for a couple hours, working to catch a young osprey try, and try again, to catch a fish. Although we were treated to five dives and water hits (all unsuccessful for the osprey) we struggled to get a good clean shot of the entire procedure. Lots of fun and lessons learned. Finally, we watched the osprey fly off down river, wished it better luck next time, and returned home (to Gus and the RV park) to rest, process photos, and catch up on e-mail. The adventure continues….
