These two silos stood out in the evening light and the shorter one was so unusual I couldn't resist photographing them. Silo facts: The word silo comes from the Greek world siros, an airtight pit for storing grain. Germanic and Asiatic people typically stored green fodder and food in pits. When first introduced from Europe silos were underground pits or long, shallow masonry buildings. Early silos were rectangular or square, but gradually the advantages of the round form led to its domination. A fascinating history of silos and their evolution can be found Here
