It's June and the does are showing up with their fawns. This pair surprised us while we were out looking for Wood Ducks. They casually moved along the edge of the pond, browsing on the leaves as they went. Fawn facts: The fawns camouflage coat is their main means of survival. The white spots that are scattered about their reddish-brown coat blends with the fallen leaves on the forest floor. The fawns eventually lose this birth coat when they are weaned, and grow a grayish winter coat, which provides camouflage in the fall forests.
