We were traveling down island and just south of Campbell River we noticed several Great Blue Herons standing on the rocks all along the beach, not moving, with their heads tucked in and their wings folded out. It was a record breaking day for heat, 32C or 89.6F, and even the birds were suffering. We presumed the herons must be similar to eagles and stand like this to cool their bodies. I must say it ranked as one of the strangest looking sights we'd seen in a long time!
