Lake Serene is a very popular hike which is frowned upon by some for its crowds, proximity to a highway, stair laden trail and nice but not spectacular scenery. However, Lake Serene is still a nice spot in April and May since it is one of the early trails to an "alpine" lake to melt out, Bridal Veil Falls is always a nice spot, the crowds are sparser on spring weekdays and you can view frequent avalanches- perhaps a dozen an hour- during afternoons from a safe distance across the lake.
