a current issue in neuroscience is whether face recognition is easier if averted eyes are looking at the viewer or not... maybe I should be a test case???

They should test it on me; I'm utterly woeful at face recognition, especially when I see someone out of context. I saw a guy who used to be my boss and is now my friend at a shopping centre once and didn't realise it was him until 10 minutes later. But what's really fascinating about this one is that the change in expression and angle does make you look like two different people until I focus on things like the hair and clothing.
