Arthur, Bright, Ralph, Merle & Pete
Margaret, Julia, Ruth, Hazel, Ethel
Catherine Rhine Homan, Claire, Dorothy, Catherine, Joseph Bright Homan and Kenneth
Between the years 1889 and 1914 the Homan's had 19 children. Five of them did not survive childhood. Of the remaining 14, only Ralph died prematurely when he was shot at the age of 35 during Prohibition. Joseph Homan worked for the Reading Railroad. He loved children, and always made sure his kids had good shoes. Catherine would have been in her 40's when the last child was born. Bless her. We once calculated that she had been pregnant for a total of 14 years!
Aunt Hazel, second row middle, was the last to pass away, in May of 2005, days before her 99th birthday. The seated girl with the puzzled look on her face is my mother's mother, Dorothy, who later married Leroy 'Mac' McGrath. A dedicated shutterbug, I always wonder if she was checking out the camera.
My grandmother frequently got together with her sisters and friends and drank beer and played penny poker.
