The mohnesee is the biggest storage lake in the low mountain range of Sauerland, West Germany. People from the Ruhrgebiet visit this region frequently for recreation. There are small villages around the lake forming the municipality of Mohnesee. Most of them are on the northern side while on the southern side the Arnsberger Wald stretches out, the largest connected forest in the german Bundesland of Northrine Westphalia. This forest is inhabited by different species of deer, among them the rare Sika. In addition, many types of mushroom can be found, and here and there some beautiful half-timbered houses with cosy restaurants inside invite the tourists.
