This is the gateway to the see at Ter Heijde. The dunes separating the beach from Ter Heijde are part of a conservation area.
Today was the Nieuwjaarsduik: winter swim on New Year's Day (New Years Dive). Luckily the weather was relatively good, as you can see.

We have similar gates built around the dunes on some of our beaches too.

The barbed wire should help protect the grasses. Should be lovely when it is restored. Looks very brisk.

How fabulous!! There are some Polar Bear clubs in the U.S. They dive in the icy waters for Health to start the New Year. Very nice work in your photo here. Perspective down to the sea is very well done! V and Happy New Year to you!
